Class T&C and FAQs

What will I be doing in the class?

  • Besides having the most fun ever? We will be going over some cookie, cupcake or cake facts, decorating techniques and you will be decorating your very own set of cookies, cupcakes or cake that you will take home with you that day.

Can I purchase an additional take-home kit?

  • Yes! Many parents or practicing bakers purchase additional class kits to take home and re-do the classes. You can purchase an add-on kit during check-out. Your kit will be available at the end of your class - so don't forget it!

Do I need to know how to bake?

  • Nope! I will have the baked goods pre-made for you.

What will we learn in class?

  • For Cookies: You’ll learn what goes into preparing royal icing, the value of different icing consistencies, how to color icing, and tricks to fill piping bags. You’ll also learn different decorating techniques such as marbling, outlining, wet-on-wet, brush embroidery, and painting. Techniques will vary depending on the class and can be customized to your needs.

  • For Cupcakes: You’ll learn about buttercream, buttercream consistency, how to color the buttercream, tips and tricks for filling the icing bags and different decorating techniques using different piping tips.

  • For Cakes: You’ll learn about buttercream consistency, how to color the buttercream, tips and tricks for filling and crumb coating a cake. You’ll also learn different decorating techniques with different piping tips.

What do I need to bring?

  • Nothing! Everything will be provided for you including the rather tasty sugar cookies. All you need to do is join us and have fun! Messy decorator? You can bring your own apron or just wear easy-to-wash clothing. There is a PowerPoint, so if you wear glasses, we'd encourage you to bring them as well.

What age is best for classes?

  • My classes are for almost any age! From kiddos to grandparents - come on in and have some fun with me! My in-person classes are great for any age; however, kiddos under 12 will need a parent taking the class as well. Just remember most regular classes are at least an hour and a half and can be a little faster paced. I would suggest 8 and up but if you think your child will be able to sit through the class ok they are more than welcome! If you think your child may be too young to enjoy the in-person class, purchase an additional take-home kit! I'll send you the class powerpoint and you can teach your kids in the comfort of your own home.

Can just my child take the class?

  • I ask that all parents (or an adult 18 years and up) also attend the classes with their children under 12. For children over 12, you can drop off your child to take the class and return to pick-up in 1.5 hours. If you are dropping off your child I also ask you make sure to provide more than one phone number just in case. Most classes are held at closing so we will not be able to stay much longer after. So unfortunately, no - your younger children cannot take the class alone, an adult (at least 18) must also purchase a ticket and take the class as well - but we can promise you this - it's super fun for all involved! This makes for a great mommy and me or daddy and me activity.

What will I bring home?

  • Depending on the class, by the end of the class, you will have either created a set of gorgeous cookies (ready to dry for 24-48 hours in their own box), cute cupcakes or adorable mini cake. And of course, you’ll have new skills, memories, and fun!

Can I sign up as an individual or as a group?

  • You can sign up either as an individual, with a friend, or with a whole group. The more the merrier! Space is limited to the venue, so sign up ASAP.

I signed up for a class but can't make it

  • I understand that life happens so that’s why I allow you to cancel up to 7 days before the class. Any cancelation after the 7 days will be a class credit redeemable for up to 1 year from the credit issue date. If I do not hear from you before your class’s start time and you do not show up for class, I will not be able to offer you a refund or a credit. So please reach out prior to the class start. You can also transfer your class to a friend, just email classes@juliasjustdesserts.com to do so.

Allergies

  • Baked goods are often made with foods that can be known allergens. While I can do my best to accommodate I can’t always accommodate allergy-conscious orders. All baked goods are made in a kitchen that may contain nuts, all sugar cookies do have almond extract in them.

  • Classes may be canceled at the discretion of me, the event host. This rarely happens – but in that extremely rare event that it does, you’ll receive a 100% refund or credit for a future available class.

  • Classes with attendance below 4 will be canceled. Don’t be sad! You can either get a class credit for a future class (along with my apologies), or a full refund! I’ll let you know if your class has low attendance 2 to 3 days before the event is canceled so that you can bring a friend (hint hint) or find other plans for that day.
